Scrap Metal Processing

Our knowledge of Scrap Processing makes us industry experts in the design and manufacture of downstream systems that remove and separate materials after fragmentation into ferrous, non-ferrous and residual 'dirt' (ASR) fractions.

Our Wet Shredding Dry Downstream System combines the key benefits of both dry downstream processing and semi-wet shredding to create a system with major commercial and environmental benefits.

The system has been developed to meet stringent environmental regulations and is compatible with any model of shredder from 1,000 to 10,000 HP drive capacity.

The Process

Heavy-duty shredders fragmentise redundant items such as motorcars, certain household white goods and other light iron.

Within the downstream system, a combination of air cleaning, magnetics and further screening then separate the fragmentised material into metallic and dirt fractions.

The air-cleaning module is an efficient system of cyclones, used to separate the extracted dirt fraction from the air stream. When coupled with PLC controlled volumes of water injected into the shredder it ensures only "clean" air is emitted to atmosphere.

Magnetics are utilised to separate the steel product from the residual non-ferrous materials with eddy current magnets then used to recover and upgrade the non-magnetic metals, such as aluminium.

A network of conveyors connects the complete downstream system, with the layout and specification individually designed to suit the client's processing requirements.

The Wet Shredding Dry Downstream System can be installed as either a new plant or as part of an existing installation.

As stated above, the incorporation of the system provides many commercial and environmental benefits to the operator, particularly in terms of dust emissions to atmosphere, the effects of fires and explosions within the shredder and dust creation from both the shredder and at material handling points.
